This TechNote addresses the issue of fonts displaying incorrectly on some systems when text is copied and pasted into Director.

Issue
Fonts display incorrectly. This is seen most often on Windows 2000 systems. There are two symptoms relevant to this issue.

One symptom is that characters with accents display incorrectly. For example French characters with accents may appear incorrectly on some systems.

The other symptom is line spacing. Text will display as if there are extra carriage returns and spaces, resulting in text being divided, sometimes with only one letter per line.

Reason
The cause of this issue is unknown at this time.

This issue may occur when text from an RTF, Microsoft Word, or other formatted text document is copied and pasted into Director. The incorrect character may not appear until a movie is transferred from one platform to another.

For information about the difference between Word, RTF and plain text documents, check out General File Formats.

Work Around
There are two possible work around's.

Avoid copying text from external applications and pasting it into Director. Instead type text directly into a standard text or field member. If copying is necessary, copy and paste from a plain text (TXT) document which does not contain formatting. As always, test early and often on as many configurations as possible.

Also, try another font and size to see if this makes a difference in formatting. This issue often occurs with Ariel 14, but can occur with other fonts as well. Changing the text and/or size sometimes resolves formatting issues.

Note: The product engineers are aware of this issue and this may be addressed in a future version. Please visit our website regularly for any new announcements.
